Gripping interface ------support needed

Hello folks,

I am currently working on a project for automation of assembly of various components through the use of FANUC M710iC robot which has a controller of R30iA

Now, I am looking for some help regarding its interface that how an electrical-pneumatic gripper is connected with controller for its actuation as a part of the program?

Am I suppose to use an external PLC?

Please help!
