Dear All,
I am having a Fanuc LR Mate, I wanted to ask if it is okay to move the Robot by hand instead of Teach Pendant? Or it is not recommended by OEM? Actually I do practice it sometimes, wanted to know if it does any harm my robot?

New postDear Bailey!
Let me tell you that this practice is really not recommended, you never disturb a powered robot by external force and this is a dangerous shortcut. Try to avoid it or eventually you'll damage your robot.
Dear Bailey,
Good day.
Servo motors are not normally meant to rotate by hand when they are powered on. As well as in case of robot , even they are powered off. You might lose mastering. If you move your robot arm by hand movement . It will generate back-power. As servos are design in such way that to hold the position when pulses are not supplied. If When you try to move it , It will generate heat as it is will cause large current flow and eventually you are at risk of mechanically damaging the gearing.
So it is not recommended to move the robot by hand . That is the one of main reason , they are proving safety fence around it.
I hope it will be helpful information.
Thank you
